Youth Programs (ages 10 to 18)
Our youth programs include the Challenge Group – 10 to 15 year old athletes; and the 16 to 18 year olds (U19 Age Group Skiers). The Challenge Group is further divided in to Learn to Train (10 to 13 year olds) and Train to Train (14 to 15 year olds). Age is determined in the last year of the ski season eg. 2017-18 Learn to Train 2005-08 birthyears and Train to Train 2004-03 birthyears
Youth Winter ON Snow Training to train (early Dec – Mid/late March).
Challenge Group Train to Train (turning 14 and 15 year old in the year the ski season ends eg. 2018-19 2004-2005 birthyears) – the basic commitment for Challenge Group Train to Train skiers is skate skiing Mondays; classic skiing Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.; and 1 or 2 Saturdays a month, early December to mid-March. A waiver will need to be signed by a Parent/Guardian before the start of the 1st class.
A continuation or re-introduction to Heart Rate Monitors, Log Books and Wrist Chronometers; with ALL of these three TRAINING TOOLS you will maximize your training and document your year over year improvement. Athletes in this group are TRAINING to Train to pursue their year best and to set new personal best times for each Age Group distance.
Athletes will be encouraged to do the Full ABCup circuit and as many local AB/BC Loppets as the schedule will allow. IF the opportunity presents itself the Canadian Ski Nationals or Western Canadian Championships.
Cost for Challenge Group Train to Train ON Snow only: $249 (Skiers who enroll for just the on-snow program receive a yellow Lycra CNTG toque on a first come first served basis as long as supplies last – we change PATTERN every season ;->.)
Youth Dryland and ON Snow Training to train
Challenge Group Train to Train (14 and 15 year olds) & U18 Age Group (16-18 year olds) skiers commence mid-August and go until October for 3 days a week, with roller skiing, running and resistance training time in the gym. The basic commitment for Train to Train and U18 Age Group skiers is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00-7:30 p.m. [until October only]. Then when the snow flies in November we ski Mondays, Wednesdays 6:00-7:30PM plus 1-2 Saturdays a month.
